Here are the steps a plastic surgery consultation follows at the ArtMedica clinic:

Initial consultation (the discussion): this is when the patient meets the plastic surgeon to discuss their needs and goals, concerns and expectations regarding the treatment plan. The doctor also takes the patient’s medical history and details about any chronic illnesses or treatments that may affect the medical decision.
Initial consultation (the clinical assessment): the plastic surgeon evaluates the patient’s general health and the problem they came in for, in order to determine whether they are a suitable candidate for the requested surgery. Based on the patient’s anatomical particularities and the medical assessment, the plastic surgeon then chooses the type of procedure and the surgical approach in order to maximize the patient’s functional and aesthetic benefit.
Discussing the procedure and risks: in this step of the consultation, the plastic surgeon explains the proposed procedure in detail, including the surgical technique, the expected results and the possible associated risks and complications. This is the best moment for the patient to ask questions and raise any uncertainties.
Planning and scheduling the procedure: if the patient decides to go ahead with surgery, a date is scheduled for it. In some cases, on the plastic surgeon’s recommendation, additional laboratory or imaging investigations may be needed.
