It is a complex medical assessment that looks at: identifying endocrine causes, analysing glucose metabolism, assessing insulin resistance, assessing cardiovascular risk, checking liver and kidney function, and determining real body composition. The aim is to set a personalised treatment plan, which may include nutritional changes, lifestyle changes or weight-loss medication where there is a medical indication.
What does the Obesity Screening and Treatment Package include?
- Multidisciplinary medical assessment: an endocrinology consultation, a nutrition consultation and an endocrinology review to interpret the results and set the course of treatment. The endocrinologist establishes the diagnosis and the treatment indication. The nutritionist adapts your eating to support weight loss and to prevent loss of muscle mass.
- Imaging investigations: a thyroid ultrasound and an abdominal ultrasound, which allow assessment of the thyroid gland, liver (liver steatosis), pancreas and gallbladder.
- Body composition analysis (bioimpedance): we measure your real body fat percentage, muscle mass, fat tissue distribution and water retention. We do not rely on the number on the scale alone.
- Extended lab tests: for hormonal balance, glucose metabolism (blood glucose, HbA1c, HOMA index), lipid profile, liver function, kidney function, inflammatory status, and mineral and electrolyte metabolism. These tests reveal the real cause of the excess weight and guide the correct treatment.
