What is vampire therapy (PRP)?
Vampire therapy, or PRP (platelet-rich plasma), is a minimally invasive dermatological procedure in which the patient’s own plasma, rich in platelets and growth factors, is injected into the skin to stimulate cellular regeneration at this level.
What are the benefits of vampire therapy (PRP)?
Vampire therapy is extremely generous when it comes to the benefits it brings, the most important being:
- Skin rejuvenation: for this purpose, PRP contributes to improved skin tone, softening of wrinkles and fine lines, added luminosity, and evening out of the skin’s pigment and texture.
- Scar treatment: by stimulating collagen synthesis, vampire therapy produces a filling effect on atrophic scars, such as post-acne scars.
- Alopecia treatment: injecting platelet-rich plasma at the scalp level stimulates faster regeneration of hair follicles, which is why PRP can contribute significantly to the re-densification of hair.
- Faster healing: its rich content of proteins and growth factors means that injecting PRP into damaged areas contributes significantly to speeding up the natural healing process and reducing recovery time.

How is vampire therapy performed at ArtMedica Clinic?

Although the name of the procedure may be misleading, vampire therapy is patient-friendly, as it is non-invasive, quick, and recovery time is minimal. Here is how vampire therapy works at ArtMedica Clinic:
- Initial consultation: the first step is evaluating the reason the patient is presenting (scars, alopecia, desire to achieve a rejuvenated skin, etc.). Following the medical history and clinical examination, the dermatologist establishes a personalized treatment plan tailored to the patient’s needs.
- Blood draw: venous blood is drawn from the inner elbow area, exactly as for routine laboratory tests.
- Blood centrifugation: the blood is then centrifuged at high speeds in a special device, in order to separate the plasma from the rest of the blood components. Having a lower density, the plasma remains in the upper portion of the kit, from where it can be easily extracted.
- Patient preparation: to minimize discomfort during the procedure, local anesthesia in the form of a cream may be applied to the area to be treated. Additionally, the skin is rigorously disinfected with antiseptic solutions, as before any injectable procedure.
- Delivering the plasma into the target tissue: depending on the specificities of the area that needs treatment and the patient, several protocols can be used. As a principle, the plasma needs small channels through which to reach the skin, and this can be achieved through different techniques: injection with fine-needle syringes, microneedling, or laser technology.
- Post-treatment care: at the end of the procedure, the patient receives at-home instructions, such as applying a soothing and moisturizing cream or avoiding sun exposure.
